2017dodgeramsport475I’m short. I like to say I’m 5’4” but I’m lucky if I clear 5’3”, when the Dodge Ram 1500 arrived at my door I was somewhat intimidated. This is a big truck. But once you get into the cockpit it’s amazingly easy to drive.

Although the Ram 1500 has been around for awhile it still delivers with its choice of engines, and trim levels. It also has one of the smoothest rides in the segment with it’s coil-spring rear suspension.

I test drove the 1500 Quad Cab 4×2 with the Sport trim level and the Night Edition styling. The Quad Cab is a four-door that seats six passengers and comes with a 6’4” bed.

A black honeycomb grille, black Ram tailgate nameplate, 20-inch black aluminum wheels, dual rear exhaust with bright tips and flat black Ram 1500 badge set the Night Edition apart from other Rams. While the Sport trim level adds LED taillights and LED interior/exterior accent lighting, power-adjustable pedals, an upgraded driver information display and an extra USB port.

2017dodgeramsportUnder the hood is a 5.7-liter, V8 delivering 395 horses and 410 lb-ft of torque. Expect to get 15/city, 22/highway, and 17/combine mpg. With the V8 engine the Ram Sport can tow 1800 pounds.

Inside, if you didn’t know you were driving or riding in a truck there would be no indication. The interior is as comfortable as any car and attractive too. With comfy cloth bucket seats up front and plenty of legroom in back.

A great feature of the Ram is the rotary shift knob. Although it is not second nature once you get used to it you’ll appreciate the room it saves in the center console. The 8.4-inch touchscreen is easy to use with a large display that makes it simple to see. I liked the optional ParkSense which aided with parking front and rear, it gave me a sense of security.

One of the best parts of the Ram 1500 is the drive. It’s quiet and smooth-driving. The V8 Hemi engine insures that there is plenty of power for passing or towing. It’s just an all-around fun drive.

If you need a truck with some class give the 2017 Ram 1500 Night Edition a test drive.
