2017GenesisG90475Have you always wanted a luxury car but blanched at the list price? There’s a new brand in town and it just might have you doing somersaults. The Genesis G90 is the brainchild of Hyundai. Now don’t make that face, remember when Lexus and Infiniti debuted? There was some skepticism there but look at the brands now.

The G90 offers everything that makes a car luxurious; whisper-quiet interior, smooth ride, a powerful V8 and a long list of extras all for a price that is below those other luxury cars.

2017 Genesis G90The Genesis G90 comes in two trims: the 3.3T Premium and the 5.0 Ultimate. This review will focus on the 5.0 Ultimate.

With standard features such as 19-inch wheels, adaptive automatic xenon headlights, LED running lights, heated and power-folding mirrors, soft-close doors, a hands-free power trunklid, adaptive suspension, adaptive cruise control, auto-dimming mirrors, and keyless entry and ignition there’s plenty to crow about but Genesis adds more.

A head-up display, leather upholstery, tri-zone automatic climate control, heated and ventilated front seats, a 22-way power-adjustable driver seat (16-way front passenger seat), memory functions for the front seats, a power tilt-and-telescoping and heated steering wheel, a faux suede headliner, wood interior trim, adjustable interior ambient lighting, power sunshades for the rear windows, rear seat climate and audio controls, Bluetooth phone and streaming audio, a wireless charging pad, a 12.3-inch infotainment screen, a navigation system with real-time traffic and voice control, and a 17-speaker Lexicon premium surround-sound system with satellite/HD radio and USB ports in front and back makes up the interior luxuries.

The G90 Ultimate also gets the addition of upgrades to the rear seats with power adjustments (14-way right rear seat and 12-way left rear seat), ventilation and memory functions.

A 5.0-liter V8 delivering 420 horses with 383 lb-ft of torque gives this car its moves. An eight-speed automatic transmission brings it all together. My model was equipped with the standard rear-wheel drive but all-wheel drive is available. With power there is a loss of gas mileage, estimates come in at 16/city, 24/highway and 19/combined mpg.

2017genesisg90dashReal wood trim and leather seats grace the interior of the G90. The infotainment screen is front and center with crisp graphics. Seats front and back are roomy and comfortable.

There is 15.7-cubic feet of space in the trunk. The back seats do not fold down but there is a pass-through for longer stuff.

The ride in the G90 is comfort personified with a smooth ride quality and quiet cabin. The V8 has a nice growl and acceleration is excellent. Cornering is smooth and confident and steering is straight and true.

Want a luxury car without the luxury price? Give the 2017 Genesis G90 Ultimate a test drive.
