2017hyundaisonatasport475In the age of Crossovers, the family sedan is often overlooked. The 2017 Hyundai Sonata, takes the family sedan and elevates it to a comfortable, roomy, alternative to the Crossover doldrums.

With a roomy interior and attractive exterior, the Sonata is great for family trips or just to tool around town. Plus its easy to park in urban environments. You won’t feel like you are birthing the Queen Mary when you park in small lots.

Available in Base, SE, Sport, Eco, and Limited trims, the 2017 Hyundai Sonata is a midsize sedan. This review will focus on the Sport trim.

2017 SonataLED daytime running lights, side mirrors with integrated turn signal indicators, simulated leather cabin trim and an eight-way power driver seat are some of the highlights of the Sonata Sport’s equipment. 17-inch alloy wheels, dual exhausts with chrome tips and distintive body touches gives the Sonata Sport it’s sporty look.

A Value Edition package is an option for the Sport trim which was included on my model. It offers a sunroof, keyless entry and ignition, a hands-free remote opening trunk, partial leather upholstery, heated front seats, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob.

Rolling down the highway with 185 horses, the Sport’s 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine rates 178 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed automatic makes the front wheel drive go. Mileage estimates come in a 25/city, 35/highway and 28/combined mpg.

With an interior that holds to the old saying “keep it simple, stupid,” the layout of the Sonata Sport is deceptively simple, but the layout has a logic and usefulness to it. There are separate buttons for the most used functions like navigation, phone, and radio; they are not buried in the 7-inch touchscreen.

Four adults can sit comfortably in the Sonata, and front seat passengers will be especially comfortable in the cushy seats. Trunk space is generous at 16.3 cubic-feet and the back seats have a 60/40 split for longer cargo. My model was equipped with the smart trunk opener that opens the trunk automatically if you stand behind the car with the key fob for more than three seconds….surprise!

The cabin of the Sonata is very quiet and bumps in the road are all but non-existent. Turning is steady and once you get the car to speed it hums along nicely.
