2017jeepcompass475At the beginning of 2017 the Jeep Compass carried over unchanged. But a midyear redesign was introduced bringing a whole new Compass. Inside and out the Compass is new bringing it in line with other Jeep models. Features of the new Compass are: stronger chassis, revised suspension, and easier powertrain choices.

The are four trim levels of the redesigned Compass: Sport, Latitude, Limited, and Trailhawk. This review will focus on the Sport trim.

Standard on the entry-level Sport you’ll find front-wheel drive (my model was equipped with the optional 4-wheel drive), Uconnect system with 5-inch display, Bluetooth, cloth seats, and a six-speaker sound system. It also comes with remote keyless entry, push button start, and electronic roll mitigation (an absolute for for the manual transmission).

2017jeepcompassintMy model had the addition of the Customer Preferred Package 21A which added larger wheels, a rear park assist system, heated front seats, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel.

Powering the Compass Sport is a 2.4-liter, 4-cylinder engine that produces 180 horses with 175 pound-feet of torque. My model was equipped with the standard six-speed manual transmission that was easy to shift, but there is a 9-speed automatic transmission available for those that are unable to operate a manual. Expect to get 22/city, 31/highway, and 25/combined mpg.

Inside the Compass is a looker with soft-touch materials and a gentle curving design. Seating is spacious for both front and rear passengers. Cargo space is generous too, with 27 cubic feet of space with the backs seats up and even more with the 60/40 split seats down.

With its car-like ride, the Jeep Compass is great on locals roads. It softens the potholes and has a good line of sight. It won’t tear up the road but it will get you where you want to go with style.
