2017lexus300h475When shopping for a luxury compact crossover SUV that also has a hybrid engine, the choices are few. Actually there are no choices, the 2017 Lexus NX 300h is it on a stick as they say. The NX 300h compromises on nothing, it is still as luxurious and smooth-riding as one would expect of the Lexus brand.

A five-passenger compact SUV, the NX 300h comes standard with 17-inch wheels, automatic LED headlights, LED foglights and running lights, heated mirrors, keyless ignition and entry, rearview camera, automatic dual-zone climate control, eight-way power-adjustable front seats with two-way driver lumbar adjustment, simulated-leather upholstery, power-adjustable and leather-wrapped tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, 60/40-split folding and reclining backseat, Bluetooth, 7-inch Lexus Display Audio knob-and-screen interface, Scout GPS Link navigation smartphone app connectivity, one USB port and an eight-speaker sound system with a CD player, HD and satellite radio, auxiliary audio jack and a media player interface….whew!

Optional packages were installed on my test model adding extras like 18-inch wheels, a sunroof, upgraded running lights, heated and ventilated seats, and blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert systems, power liftgate, automatic wipers, leather upholstery and a heated steering wheel. Also installed was a navigation system with a full Lexus navigation system, the Remote Touch infotainment interface, a variety of smartphone apps and two additional speakers.

2017lexus300hintA 2.5-liter four cylinder engine combines with three electric motors and all-wheel-drive, producing 194 horses. Mileage estimates come in at 33/city, 30/highway and 31/combined mpg.

A modern cabin greets the driver with luxurious materials and padded surfaces. Wooden trim gives the interior a rich feel. Knobs, controls, and whatnot are easy to reach and use. Front and back seat passengers alike will find the NX 300h plenty comfortable with great leg and headroom and supportive seats for the long haul. Cargo space is a bit cramped with 17.7 cubic feet with the rear seats up and 53.7 cubic feet with them down.

Although the NX 300h won’t burn up the road, it is a comfortable, quite ride and isn’t that the point? When looking for a luxury hybrid crossover SUV, the NX 300h is not only your only choice it is the best.
