2017toyotarav475The 2017 Toyota RAV4 is just plain flat-out a good choice for a compact SUV. Not only is it good-looking and reliable but with the added Safety Sense which includes adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning and mitigation, lane keeping assist, and automatic high beams, it’s a good buy too. There is also an additional trim level: Platinum and that is the subject of this review.

The RAV4 seats five and is available in LE, XLE, Limited and Platinum trim levels.

The top of the line Platinum trim gives the RAV4 a heated steering wheel, 11-speaker JBL premium audio system, hands-free power liftgate, and surround-view exterior camera system. This is in addition to 18-inch wheels, LED headlights and running lights, front and rear parking sensors, a power-operated liftgate, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, keyless entry and ignition, remote ignition, SofTex synthetic leather upholstery, eight-way power-adjustable driver seat, heated front seats, integrated navigation with real-time traffic and weather, a 7-inch touchscreen, Entune mobile apps, and a universal garage-door opener. It’s fully loaded with every goody and gadget you could imagine.

2017toyotarav4intA 2.5-liter four cylinder engine powers the RAV4 delivering 176 horses and 172 pound-feet of torque. It’s paired with a six-speed automatic trany. Expect to get 23/city, 29/highway, and 25/combined mpg. I found the engine peppy enough, getting me from a full stop to freeway speeds quickly and with no lags.

On the inside the RAV4 has all the gadgets you’ll need and them some. The Entune infotainment system is a breeze to operate and since the Platinum trim level is the top of the heap there were plenty of apps like Pandora, OpenTable, iHeartRadio and MovieTickets.com.

Seating up front is comfortable and supportive and the rear seats can be reclined for passenger-specific comfort. Cargo space is cavernous at 38.4 cubic feet of space behind the back seats and 73.4 cubic feet with the back seats folded down.

Comfortable and with a quiet ride, the RAV4′s engine delivers the power when the situation arises. Handling is smooth and turns are steady and true. The size of the RAV4 is perfect for city driving a parking.
