2017toyotayaris475Not everyone is a car fanatic. Some people just want to get from point A to B with creature comforts and fuel economy. But what if you could have the basics with some of the extras? The 2017 Toyota Yaris fits the bill nicely. And for 2017 Toyota has added a whole host of safety features to make your drive that much safer.

A subcompact, the Yaris is offered in three trim levels: L, LE, and SE. This review will focus on the SE trim that is offered as a four-door liftback.

The premium trim SE comes equipped with 16-inch alloy wheels, projector-beam headlights, LED running lights, foglights, special exterior styling elements, four-wheel disc brakes, a leather-trimmed steering wheel and upgraded cloth upholstery.

2017toyotayarisintThis is in addition to the standard equipment of power door locks and windows, air-conditioning, a height-adjustable driver seat, a tilt-only steering wheel, a 60/40-split folding rear seat, Bluetooth, a 6.1-inch touchscreen, and a six-speaker sound system with a CD player, HD radio and a USB port. Lane departure warning and forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking are also standard.

A 1.5-liter four banger powers the Yaris getting 106 horses. It is paired with a manual five-speed transmission, but there is a four-speed automatic as an option which is what my test vehicle was equipped with. Expect to get 30/city, 35/highway, and 32/combined mpg.

Inside the Yaris is pretty roomy for a subcompact. Both front and back-seat passengers will be plenty comfortable. The interior materials are not particularly noteworthy as the most consist of hard plastics. The cargo space is fair and the backseats do fold down for more room.

Driving the Yaris is not a bad experience. It is relatively quick and nimble and for city driving and parking you can’t beat the smaller dimensions.

Need a car to get you from point A to B with a bit of sparkle? Give the 2017 Toyota Yaris SE a test drive.
