2018audia4allroad475Once upon a time station wagons were all the rage for larger families, but these days it seems all about crossovers. However, there are still station wagons on the market and the 2018 Audi A4 allroad is one of the nicer ones.

As with all Audi models luxury is job one and the allroad is no exception. The interior is luscious with high-end materials and the drive is nothing short of exhilarating.

A luxury station wagon, the allroad seats five and comes in three trims: Premium, Premium Plus, and Prestige. This review will focus on the Prestige trim level.

Audi A4 allroad quattroAutomatic high-beam control, noise-reducing front windows, adaptive cruise control, a head-up display, enhanced interior lighting, a surround-view camera system, and a lane departure warning and intervention system punctuate the extras on the Prestige. Some other features are: a navigation system; Audi Connect services (includes emergency telematics, 4G LTE connectivity and in-car Wi-Fi hotspot, among other services); a virtual instrument panel inside the gauge cluster; a touchpad infotainment controller; and an 8.3-inch central display screen.

My model was also equipped with the Warm Weather Package and the Cool Weather Package which added heated rear seats and a heated steering wheel plus manual rear sunshades and ventilated front sport seats with passenger lumbar adjustment.

A turbocharged four-cylinder engine powers the A4 allroad producing 252 horses and 273 pound-feet of torque. The seven speed automatic transmission works well with the engine to produce smooth gear changes. Expect to get 22/city, 30/highway and 25/combined mpg.

On the inside, the allroad is all about the driver and passengers. Controls are easily accessed and don’t take long to get the hang of. Seats are comfortable front and back and bolstered enough for a long drive. Materials used in the cabin are upmarket befitting a luxury car.

Cargo space is plentiful for things great and small. There are plenty nooks and crannies to store small things and ample room in the cargo area. The back seats fold down 40/20/40 for even more room.

The allroad is speedy. Its turbocharged engine handles the weight of the wagon well making quick work of entering the freeway or passing slower traffic. The steering is remarkably nimble for a larger vehicle.

Need a passenger vehicle but would like one with some style and panache? Give the 2018 Audi A4 allroad 2.0T a test drive.
