2018hyundaisonata475With a full restyle inside and out, there is more to love with the 2018 Hyundai Sonata midsized sedan.

Suspension and steering have been reconfigured to improve ride, response and steering feel. All models now come standard with great safety features, and in my opinion a must in every car, of blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic detection, and lane change assist. Outside the car sports a new grille design and a much more athletic look.

2018hyundaisonatadashAvailable with a whopping seven trim levels: SE, ECO, SEL, Sport, Limited, Sport 2.0T, and Limited 2.0T there are plenty of trim packages available for personal preferences. This review will focus on the Limited trim edition.

Features on the Limited trim include a sunroof, dynamic LED headlights, LED taillights, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, full leather seats, a six-way power passenger seat, driver-seat memory settings, front-seat ventilation, dual climate control and woodgrain appearance trim.

My model also included the optional Ultimate package adding driver aids and comfort items such as automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane keeping assist, adaptive cruise control with stop-start capability, automatic high beams, electronic parking brake with auto hold, rear parking sensors, heated steering wheel, rear side window shades, an 8-inch touchscreen navigation system, wireless smartphone charging, a premium audio system, HD real-time traffic, a trial subscription to SiriusXM Travel link, and a three-year subscription to Blue Link multimedia/map updates.

Powered by a 2.4-liter, four cylinder engine, the Sonata Limited produces 185 horses and 178 lb-ft of torque. A six-speed automatic transmission brings it all together. Expect to get 25/city, 35/highway, and 28/combined mpg.

2018hyundaisonataintOn the inside the Sonata Limited is a nice place to be with good fit and finish on all surfaces. The addition of the woodgrain trim really added a touch of quality to the cabin. The leather seating was comfortable and the backseat space good for even taller passengers. All controls are easy to use and well-labeled, making everything easy to operate. Cargo space is roomy with 16.3 cubic feet with more when the backseats are down.

Although you won’t be breaking any speed records the engine responds well-enough with a burst of power when needed and a well-mannered ride. Steering is responsive and it performs well on twisty roads.

Need a family sedan that’s got a little something-something? Give the 2018 Hyundai Sonata Limited a test drive.
