2018kiasportage475After a full redesign last year, the Kia Sportage comes into 2018 with only minor changes to trim levels. As a compact crossover, the Sportage is refined and comfortable. With a lower price point than other compact crossovers in its class, there’s more to love.

Available in three trim levels, LX, EX, and SX Turbo, this review will focus on the SX Turbo trim with optional all-wheel drive.

Standard on the SX are 19-inch wheels, xenon headlights, LED foglights, an electronic parking brake, special exterior trim, the flat-bottom steering wheel, a larger gauge display, forward collision warning and automatic braking, blind-spot and rear cross-traffic warning systems, lane departure warning, automatic high-beam control. power-folding mirrors, hands-free liftgate, front and rear parking sensors, a spare tire, an eight-way power-adjustable passenger seat, an 8-inch touchscreen, a navigation system and an eight-speaker Harman Kardon sound system.

2018kiasportageintPowered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 237 horses and 260 lb-ft of torque. A six-speed automatic transmission shifts the car smoothly through the gears. Expect to get 20/city, 23/highway, and 21/combined mpg.

As compact crossovers go, the Sportage’s interior is one of the nicest with soft surfaces and mat finishes, the dash is sporty and attractive. Legroom is plentiful front and back and seating is comfortable. Because of the roominess of the passenger area, the cargo area is smaller than others in its class but still big enough for everyday usage.

Because of its turbocharged engine, the Sportage EX zips along the road with a good turning radius. Good acceleration from a dead stop helps to add to the sporty vibe.

Need a small crossover with plenty of room for passengers? Give the 2018 Kia Sportage EX a test drive.
