2018 Lexus LS 500: Not Just Another Pretty Face

The completely redesigned 2018 Lexus LS 500 is all curves and angles on the outside, but it’s pure splendor on the inside. With a cushy ride and quiet interior, you’ll never doubt it’s luxury roots. The newly-designed suspension literally glides down the road, while the turbocharged V6 zips down the road.

2018lexusls500475The LS 500 comes in only one trim level but there are plenty of extras to make it your own design.

Base equipment includes: 19-inch wheels, adaptive suspension, LED headlights, sunroof, hands-free trunk, power-closing doors, leather upholstery, power-adjustable heated and ventilated front seats, heated leather-wrapped steering wheel, magnesium paddle shifters, 16-way power-adjustable heated and ventilated front seats, and a power rear sunshade.

On the tech side, the LS 500 comes loaded with a navigation system, trackpad-style interface, Wi-Fi hotspot, Lexus Enform smartphone app integration, Enform emergency and convenience services, Bluetooth, a 12-speaker audio system, a rearview camera, front and rear parking sensors, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams and rain-sensing wipers.

My model included the Safety System+ A package which adds a load of safety features; adaptive air suspension; cold weather package; 20 inch Alloy wheels; 24 inch display; LED headlamps; Mark Levinson, 23-speaker sound system; the Executive Package giving the LS 500 among other things heated and ventilated rear seats with a massage function, heated and ventilated rear seats, and individual climate control; a Panoramic Glass Roof; and Wood Trim. It was fully loaded.

The twin-turbo, 3.5-liter V6 produces 416 horses and 442 pound-feet of torque; yee haw! The 10-speed automatic transmission is smooth shifting. Expect to get 19/city, 30/highway, and 23/combined mpg.

The interior is a beautiful place with buttery leather seats and dash and a rich wood trim. Four passengers will fit comfortably in the cabin with plenty of leg and headroom to hunker down for a long drive. The infotainment system is a bit frustrating to use as many of the functions are buried within a plethora of layers.

It’s difficult to balance comfort with sporty but Lexus has done it with the LS 500. It accelerates with the greatest of ease and steers into corners with a firm touch, while it glides over bumps and road imperfections.
