New updates the grille, a restyled dashboard and redesigned seats, make the 2018 Mazda6 a more attractive choice in the family sedan segment. The ever-present roomy interior and great fuel economy make it a perennial choice for families’ looking to drive a family car with a sense of style and a bit of fun. There’s even a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that adds to the 6′s appeal.

I have always liked driving Mazda’s I find them attractive and a joy to drive. The 6 is no exception and with the redesign it’s an even more attractive choice.

With five trim levels to choose from: Sport, Touring, Grand Touring, Grand Touring Reserve and Signature, there is sure something to suit individual taste. I was pampered by driving the fully-loaded Signature trim and that’s what this review will focus on.

With higher-quality materials such as microfiber suede, wood, and upgraded leather, along with the addition of LED interior lighting and a frameless rearview mirror the interior of the Mazda6 Signature is really a beautiful place to be. The addition of a gunmetal front grille adds a bit of sportiness to its look. Other feature additions consist of a digital gauge cluster and a surround-view camera system with front and rear parking sensors.

A new turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine powers the Mazda6 with 227 horses and 310 lb-ft of torque. The engine is paired with a six-speed automatic making seamless shifts. Expect to get 23/city, 31/highway, and 26/combined mpg.

A beautifully appointed interior greets drivers and passengers with lots of room and high-end materials. Tech is placed for ease of use but is unobtrusive with buttons and a central control knob that is used for most of the functions.

Seating is well-bolstered and good for both short jaunts or longer treks. If you are off on a trip, the trunk will accommodate plenty of stuff with 14.7 cubic feet with the backseats up and more with the seats down.

With a quiet ride (except for the pleasant growl emitted from the engine) the cabin is conducive to listening to tunes on the great sound system or listening to your passengers day. With the turbocharged engine, the car races from a stop with none of the pause that some turbocharged engines have. The drive is organic, with the worst of the bumps lessened but still with a feel of the road. Steering is great through turns but a little heavy when moving slower.

A family sedan doesn’t have to be boring as the 2018 Mazda6 Signature proves.
