2018mercedese400cabriolet475For 2018 the Mercedes E-Class coupe and convertible have been completely redesigned inside and out. The interiors are more richly appointed than before and the ride is smoother due to the new base platform of the E400. There are also a whole host of advanced driver safety features. There are also the latest in autonomous driver features. It’s a whole new vehicle and good looking to boot.

One of the features I appreciated was the Airscarf neck-warmer. Picture this; you’re driving along Pacific Coast Highway through Malibu, the day is overcast and blustery, you’ve got the top down but you’re warm and toasty. Thank the Airscarf neck-warmer for that feeling. It was great, I could enjoy the fresh salt air without freezing my extremities. All convertibles should have this feature.

The E400 Cabriolet I drove had a whole list of standard equipment including: LED headlights, automatic wipers, power-folding mirrors with heating, selectable drive modes, an adaptive suspension, dual-zone automatic climate control, premium Nappa leather upholstery, power-adjustable front seats, and driver-seat memory functions.

Technology features included: a 12.3-inch display, a rearview camera, Mercedes’ COMAND infotainment system with a touchpad controller, voice controls, a navigation system, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, HD radio and two USB ports.

2018mercedese400interiorMy model also included the optional Premium Package 3 adding such luxuries as: a surround-view camera system, adaptive cruise control with steering and lane-change assist, a speed-limit sign reader, forward collision and rear cross-traffic warnings and mitigation, evasive steering assist, active blind-spot assistance, a head-up display, and Pre-Safe side and rear impact preparation.

Powered by a turbocharged 3.0 liter V6, delivering 329 horses and 354 lb-ft of torque, the E400 Cabriolet zooms around lesser cars and makes getting on the freeway a pleasure. The car was equipped with a 9-speed Automatic Transmission along with all-wheel drive. Expect to get 20/city, 25/highway, and 22/combined mpg.

On the inside is nothing but class. From the sumptuous Napa leather seats to the soft surfaces and natural grain Black Ash wood trims, the interior of the E400 is nothing short of luxurious. Back seat passengers short and tall will have plenty of legroom and front seat passengers will ride in comfort with the bolstered seats.

As a convertible, the E400 has limited trunk space due to the need for the soft top storage. With the top up there is 9.5 cubic feet of available space. The backseats do have a 50/50 split for longer cargo.

With its turbocharged V6, you’ll have plenty of power to make quick lane changes and freeway merges. Around town the comfortable suspension will minimize even the largest pothole and the quiet cabin will help you to enjoy the fantastic sound system.

Looking for comfortable, convertible luxury? Look no further than the 2018 Mercedes E400 Cabriolet.
