2018toyota86475The Toyota 86 is great fun to drive. It’s small and sporty and zips its way through traffic with a lot of rumble and roar. However, the interior is small so tall people beware.

The 86 comes in two trim levels: base and GT. This review will focus on the base trim.

The base trim comes loaded with equipment like, 17-inch alloy wheels, automatic LED headlights, air conditioning, keyless entry, height-adjustable driver’s seat, leather-wrapped tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, cruise control and rearview camera. Tech features include Bluetooth connectivity, 7-inch touchscreen, voice commands, and an eight-speaker sound system with HD radio, an auxiliary audio jack and a USB interface.

Luxury 2018 toyota 86 interiorPowered by a 2.0-liter four banger, this little spitfire delivers 200 horses and 151 pound-feet of torque. My model was combined with the optional automatic transmission. Expect to get 24/city, 32/highway, and 27/combined mpg.

On the inside the 86 is all business. Everything on the dash is accessible and straight-forward. Front seating is low but comfortable. Don’t even think about seating anyone in the backseats, access is difficult and space is non-existent. Use the backseats instead for grocery bags or small boxes.

Driving the 86 is where it shines. Swift and nimble, the 86 is a blast to drive. It zips along the road and through turns with ease and the engine has a satisfying rumble.
