2019chevycamaro475Sporting a fresh new look (new front and rear lights and a new fascia), the Chevrolet Camaro comes into 2019 with the same brief: to muscle it’s way through traffic with agility and purpose. It’s a sports car will all the enjoyment and drawbacks that come with that moniker. The Camaro is a hot little number with an aggressive stance and a quick response but its outward sight-line is reduced, the backseat is useful only to put packages on and the trunk space is minimal. But if you are a true sports car lover there’s nothing better than hearing the low growl of the engine and the feel of the road as the Camaro negotiates turns with the greatest of ease.

The 2019 Camaro comes in seven trim levels: 1LS, 1LT, 2LT, 3LT, 1SS, 2SS, and ZL1. It can be had as a convertible or coupe and can seat four. This review will focus on the 2LT trim.

2019chevroletcameroshifterIn addition to includes 18-inch alloy wheels, LED running lights, a rearview camera, keyless ignition and entry, cruise control, eight-way power-adjustable driver’s seat and four-way power-adjustable front passenger seat, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and adjustable driving modes. Technology equipment includes Bluetooth, OnStar emergency communications, 4G LTE Wi-Fi connectivity, a 7-inch touchscreen, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone integration, and a six-speaker sound system, the 2LT adds dual-zone automatic climate control, leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror.

An extra on my test model was the 1LE Track Performance package adding sport-tuned suspension, 20-inch forged alloy wheels with wider summer tires, a mechanical limited-slip differential, a short-throw shifter, a track-cooling package, a dual-mode exhaust (with the V6 only), special aerodynamic spoilers and a satin black hood. Inside you’ll find a suede-wrapped flat-bottom steering wheel and suede-wrapped shifter.

2019chevycamarointA 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine powered my Camaro, producing 275 horses and 295 pound-foot of torque. It was equipped with a six-speed standard transmission. I found the reverse to be problematic as it was to the right of the fifth gear and about the sixth gear. I did not have to push the gear shift down or pull it up in order to engage reverse. I found myself on more than one occasion putting the car into fifth gear instead of reverse and lurching forward (thank goodness I wasn’t close to anything when this happened). It was a bit unnerving. Expect to get 20/city, 30/highway, and 23/combined mpg.

On the inside the Camaro is well-appointed and roomy for the front seat occupants. The seats are well-bolstered and offer plenty of adjustments to make the driver and front passenger comfortable. If you can get people in the backseat they won’t be terribly happy, it’s really a better place for packages.

The new generation Chevrolet Infotainment 3 is equipped on the 2019 Camaro which is quick and easy to use. Android Audio and Apple CarPlay is standard. There’s also Chevrolet’s OnStar and 4G LTE connectivity and a Wi-Fi hotspot on a subscription basis.

Driving on the open road is where the Camaro shines. The turbo kicks in without a lag and the car is weighted enough that there is no torque steer. Acceleration is joy-inducing and steering feels good and steady with a good feel of the road.

Great for single or couples who appreciate a true-sports car experience, the 2019 Camaro 2LT Coupe is quite a ride.
