2019lexusrx350l475Until last year if you wanted a luxury crossover with a third-row from Lexus you were out of luck, but with the introduction of the RX 350L in 2018 Lexus threw their hat into the ring. For 2019 the RX 350L remains unchanged from its debut last year.

To accommodate the third-row, Lexus added 4.4 inches to the existing RX 350 frame bumping its seating capacity from five passengers to seven. However, the third-row is pretty cramped and should be relegated to small children only.

Available in one trim, the 2019 Lexus RX 350L has a number of add-on packages to suit individual needs. My model came equipped with the optional Blind Spot Monitor, Cold Weather Package, Luxury Package and Navigation System.

The base 350L model comes with LED headlights, automatic wipers, auto-dimming mirrors, roof rails, a power liftgate, keyless ignition and entry, tri-zone automatic climate control, a power-adjustable steering wheel, leather upholstery, driver-seat memory settings, power-adjustable front seats, a 40/20/40-split second-row seat, and a power-folding and 50/50-split third-row seat.

With the addition of the Luxury package the 350L gained a sunroof, wood trim, 20-inch wheels, a heated steering wheel, rear door sunshades, upgraded leather upholstery, and four-way lumbar adjustment and thigh extension for the front seats.

2019lexusrx350lintThe Navigation package takes things up a notch with an integrated navigation system, the Remote Touch tech interface, a larger 12.3-inch display, the Lexus Enform App Suite and a 15-speaker Mark Levinson sound system.

A 3.5-liter V6 engine powers the RX 350L with 290 horses and 263 pound-feet of torque. The engine is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive. Expect to get 19/city, 26/highway, and 22/combined mpg.

The interior of the RX 350L is luxury personified with beautifully finished surfaces, soft-touch materials and supple leather upholstery. Gauges and controls are thoughtfully placed around the cabin in an attractive and easy-to-use manner.

Front seats are comfortable with plenty of cushion and four-way adjustable lumbar support. Second-row seating benefits from the ability to move forward and back, however with the third-row seating engaged legroom is at a minimum. The third-row should only be used for smaller children, it is very cramped back there.

Cargo space is minimal with the third-row seats engaged with only 7.5 cubic feet of storage. With the third-row down it climbs to 23 cubic feet. There are plenty of small spaces for stowing all your stuff, even the second-row seating has rear door and seatback pockets.

Even from a dead stop, the V6 engine gives a good burst of power for quick freeway maneuvers. The ride is smooth and comfortable but not floaty. The cabin is wonderfully quiet, allowing full enjoyment of the Mark Levinson 15-speaker Premium Audio Package. Fortunately it doesn’t steer like an SUV, so twisty roads will be no problem.
