2019lexusux250750With a zippy hybrid engine, the all new Lexus UX 250h makes its mark in the subcompact SUV market. As with all Lexus’ it has a posh interior and plenty of standard features. It fits in that sweet spot between full-sized SUV and crossover; easy to maneuver and park on city streets but big enough to seat five.

The UX 250h comes in two trim levels: base, Luxury and F Sport. This review will focus on the UX 250h Luxury.

The top of the line Luxury trim comes with notable features including, sound-damping front side windows, auto-dimming side mirrors, a hands-free power liftgate, driver-seat memory functions, blind-spot monitoring, a navigation system, a 10.3-inch central display, and an eight-speaker sound system.

2019lexusux250dashPowering the UX 250h is a 2.0-liter, four banger paired with two motor generators and a battery pack. The combined power produces 181 horses. There is a third electric motor that is used to power the rear wheels when extra traction is needed which basically makes the 250h an all-wheel drive vehicle. Expect to get 41/city, 38/highway, and 39/combined mpg.

On the inside the 250h is constructed with the usual care that heralds a Lexus: attention to detail with an understated elegance. Seating is comfortable and roomy enough for four adults, leave the fifth space for children. Cargo space is good with 17.1 cubic feet of available space.

The electric motors do a great job of assisting the UX 250h with get up and go, so it is great from a dead stop. It has a great turning radius and corners well. Part of its charm is the smaller dimensions which make it a great vehicle for crowded urban settings.

Looking for Lexus but don’t need something big? Give the 2019 Lexus UX 250h Luxury a test drive. You might find it’s “just right.”
