2019vwjetta475With added width, length, and height, the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta S, combines comfort with a bit of zoom. The interior gets more technology through Vws Car-Net that includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. The outside has a longer wheelbase, sharper lines and a larger grille.

A compact sedan, the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta comes in five trim levels: S, SE, R-Line, SEL, and SEL Premium. This review will focus on the base S trim.

2019vwjettadashWith 16-inch alloy wheels, LED head- and taillights, air conditioning, a 6.5-inch touchscreen-based infotainment system, a rearview camera, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, a USB port, Bluetooth and a four-speaker sound system the base Jetta is plenty loaded.

A turbocharged inline-four cylinder engine produces 147 horses. On the base level, S, the engine is paired with a manual transmission, but my model came with the 8-speed automatic. Expect to get 30/city, 40/highway, and 34/combined MPG.

On the inside, the Jetta is plenty roomy enough to seat four average-sized adults comfortably. One of Volkswagen’s strengths has always been the clean lines and logical placement of its controls, the Jetta is no different with large buttons and knobs to control everyday functions. Storage space is ample with a 14.1 cubic foot trunk and plenty of pockets and bins to stash some items.

The Jetta’s turbocharged engine gives a nice punch of speed when the gas pedal is engaged, perfect for merging into traffic and passing slower cars. Steering is good, but there is little feedback from the road so cornering is not as tight as it could be.

There’s a lot to recommend the 2019 Jetta S, including its new look and sportier styling.
