2020 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Crew: It’s Just Right

2020chevroletcolorado475The Chevrolet Colorado is described as midsized truck, but it looks plenty big to me. I know there are people who need the extra size that the Colorado’s big brother, the Silverado provides, but for the average Joe who would like some hauling capabilities with a smaller foot print, the Colorado works. The ZR2 model kicks it up a notch by adding off-road abilities like a raised suspension with special dampers, bigger all-terrain tires, fender flares, a special front and rear bumper and an electronically locking rear differential.

With the Colorado you can have it your way with two cab configurations, two bed sizes, three engines and five trim levels: Base, WT, LT, Z71, and ZR2. This review will focus on the ZR2 Crew Cab, Short Box.

2020chevroletcoloradointEquipped with all-terrain tires for an off-road ready experience the ZR2 is equipped with goodies like a leather-wrapped tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, an 8-inch touchscreen, satellite radio, additional USB ports, heated front seats, automatic climate control, and forward collision and lane departure warning systems.

A 3.6-liter, six cylinder engine paired with an eight-speed automatic gives the Colorado plenty of get up and go with 308 horses and 275 lb-ft of torque. Expect to get 16/city, 18/highway, and 17/combined mpg.

The interior of the Colorado is comfortable with leather front seats that have power adjustments. The dash has a lot of hard plastics which detracts from the nice leather seats. An eight inch touchscreen controls the many tech features like 4G LTE Wi-Fi, Bluetooth audio, Apple CarPlay and Android Audio.

The short box model that I tested had 41 cubic of feet in exterior storage. The interior’s backseats fold down to provide additional space and there are plenty of cubbies and bins to store the everyday stuff we all carry around with us.

The V-6 engine is plenty zippy around town. It provides the Colorado good acceleration from a dead stop and plenty of horses for passing slower traffic. The Colorado is pretty maneuverable in parking lots and on city streets making for a more car-like drive.

Don’t need a full-sized truck, but need more than a car provides? Maybe the 2020 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 will suit your needs.
