2020 Subaru Legacy: Just Keeps Getting Better With Redesign

2020subarulegacy475The 2020 Subaru Legacy has been redesigned inside and out with a leaner, cleaner look on the outside and a more premium design inside. Practical, but classy, the Legacy is a midsized sedan that offers all the Subaru goodies in a simple layout. All-Wheel drive is de rigueur on all Subarus except the BRZ.

The 2020 Subaru Legacy comes in six trim levels: Base, Premium, Sport, Limited, Limited XT, and Touring XT. This review will focus on the Premium trim.

Some of the highlights of the Premium trim are: Subaru Starlink that features 11.6-touchscreen, 10-way power driver’s seat including power lumbar support, 17-inch alloy wheels in black with machine finish, leather-wrapped shifter and steering wheel.

My test model was also equipped with the following optional equipment: Blind spot detection with rear cross-traffic alert and lane change assist, keyless access with push button start and LED fog lights.

Powering the Legacy Premium is an updated 2.5-liter BOXER engine, paired to a Continuous Variable Transmission producing 182 horses and 176 lb-ft of torque. Expect to get 27/city, 35/highway, and 30 combined mpg.

2020subarulegacyintThe inside of the Legacy is posh with cushiony front and back seats and plenty of legroom in both. There’s that new 11.6-inch tablet-style infotainment screen which gives the interior a more sleek look and is bright and easy to use. The drawback to the large touchscreen is that some of the functions were buried in layers of menus.

All Legacy trim levels come standard with Subaru’s EyeSight system, a suite of advanced safety and driver-assist systems. It includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and lane keeping assist. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility are standard.

While the Subaru does not exhilarate with quick acceleration, it does have a quiet, smooth ride and makes for a great family sedan. Cornering is good enough to take a twisty road with confidence.

The Legacy still remains a tried and true family car, but for 2020 it gets a little pizazz, from a new look and posher interior.
