2017 Optima HybridWhen Kia completed an overhaul on the Optima in 2016, they held back on the hybrid. So without further ado Kia presents to you the all-new Optima Hybrid. With added technology enhancements like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality, the Optima Hybrid also sports a new, more fuel-efficient powertrain, adding to its already impressive mileage estimates.

I can attest to that, I drove the Optima Hybrid from Pasadena to Carmel and back and averaged 43 mpg. I can tell you if felt really good to pass by gas stations as I drove along the 101.

2017kiaoptimahybridintThe 2017 Kia Optima Hybrid comes in two trim levels the base and EX. This review will focus on the EX trim.

With 17-inch wheels, LED daytime running lights, heated steering wheel, heated front seats, leather upholstery, 60/40-split folding rear seats, 8-inch touchscreen, navigation, and a 10-speaker Harman Kardon audio system with HD radio the EX also takes on as standard the Convenience package of power-folding mirrors, laminated (i.e., quieter) front windows, a power driver seat, driver-seat memory settings, rear air vents, and extra USB ports.

My model also included the optional Technology package which makes the Optima EX Hybrid even more desirable. It adds LED adaptive headlights, automatic high-beam control, a panoramic sunroof, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, adaptive cruise control, a power passenger seat, ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, rear side-window sunshades, lane departure warning, forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring and rear parking sensors.

Equipped with an electric motor and 2.0-liter engine the combo produces 192 horses. Combined with a six-speed transmission expect to get 39/city, 46/highway, and 42/combined mpg, (as I stated earlier, I averaged 43 mpg on my trip to Carmel).

2017kiaoptimahybriddashThe interior of the Optima Hybrid values function over flash. With plenty of features to make drive-time more interesting, the Optima has easy to use functions for it’s infotainment features.

Front seat passengers will find the seats very comfy. I know, since I sat in them for the six hour trip to Carmel. Backseat passengers will be happy too, with plenty of legroom and cushy seats. Backseat passengers will also get to enjoy the view as the windows are large for panoramic views.

The Optima Hybid is not going to break any speed records but it took the Grapevine with no protests and cruised along quietly and smoothly. The cabin was quiet and engine noise was at a minimum. Road imperfections were minimized by the Optima’s smooth ride.

Need some extra room but want to leave a smaller footprint? Give the 2017 Kia Optima Hybrid a try.
