Ode to a 2018 Lexus LC 500: Poetry in Motion

2018lexuslc500475I love my job because I love cars. Big ones, small ones, practical and fanciful, I appreciate the thought and design that goes into almost every vehicle I test drive. If asked to pick a favorite, I would be hard-pressed to come up with a single answer, until now. To say I loved driving the 2018 Lexus LC 500 would be an understatement, I reveled in it. From its sleek lines to its luxury interior, the LC 500 hits all the buttons. It was fast and it was comfortable. On the rare occasion I was able to open it up, I squealed in delight. The LC 500 is that good.

All new for 2018, the Lexus LC 500 is a luxury coupe that delivers speed and comfort in a very desirable package. Everything about the LC 500 screams luxury and the V8 delivers the fun with quick acceleration and plenty of varoom. The LC 500 has only one trim but it has a host of optional packages available to customize it as you like.

Equipped as-is the LC 500 has plenty to make the driver smile including: LED exterior lights, automatic high-beam control, heated and auto-dimming mirrors, keyless entry and ignition, ambient interior lighting, an 8-inch driver information screen, a power-adjustable tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, adaptive cruise control, heated and ventilated eight-way power front seats, driver-seat memory settings, adjustable driving modes, leather-upholstered front seats, a 10.3-inch central display, a navigation system, and a 12-speaker audio system with two USB ports and HD and satellite radio. Notable safety features include a rearview camera, a pre-collision warning system with automatic braking, and lane departure warning and mitigation.

2018lexuslc500dashMy model also came equipped with optional Convenience Package with intuitive park assist and blind spot warning with rear cross traffic alert; 21-inch forged wheels; Heads up display; Limited slip differential; Mark Levinson Premium Surround Sound (awesome); and the Sport package with glass roof, and 8-way power front seats with Alcantara inserts.

Bringing the zoom to the LC 500 is a 5.0-liter V8 engine delivering 471 horsepower and 398 pound-feet of torque. Yes, you read that right. A 10-speed automatic transmission takes the rear wheels through their paces. Expect to get a respectable 16/city, 26/highway, and 19/combined mpg considering the raw power of the engine.

In a cabin that is luxury personified, driver and front seat passenger will be plenty comfortable. It’s easy to get in and out of unlike some other sport coupes. Leave the backseat to cargo, because unless your passenger is in a baby or toddler’s seat it’s really not made for passengers with feet that need to be on the ground.

Driving the LC 500 was a dream, with super-fast acceleration and lightening-quick shifts it zooms down the road. I was giggling in delight. Steering is tight and the car sails around corners with the greatest of ease.
